I have been thinking about what “normal” is with day to day life and the top three categories that come to mind are health, relationships, and purpose. Three of life’s staples that can be, and should be, ever evolving.

Health

If since taking a step back from the “normal” Hustle & Bustle of 2019 you are getting out once, twice, even three times a week for a walk, jog or bike ride, that is great. Continue doing just that. This is a great add on to your Health & lifestyle.
If on the other hand your step back has included Netflix binging and sampling packet of Doritos after packet Doritos, maybe that is something that you may want to tweek & limit, depending on what your goal is when moving toward your new normal.

Maybe you have taken up learning a new skill. If you have found that you have done something new or different or you have enhanced an old skill, maybe it is worth exploring this further. Creation keeps us vibrant.

What part of your health do you want to continue? I know exercise is one that we always recommend be a part of our lives. If it is consistent & done well, keep this going. It might be to do with food & cooking, you may have learnt to cook from scratch and eliminate more processed foods, brilliant continue this on! These are just some ideas that you can include in your life regarding your health.

Relationships

The second staple that I believe is important to maintain & grow is relationships. This can include our family, the people around us, our friendships, and our work colleagues.

An example that I have for myself is to see my parents regularly. Seeing my father three times a month & seeing my mum twice a month or so. These are both something that I want to keep a part of my new normal.

Another one for me is spending time with my children. Having quality time with each of my three girls. Spending time that is just dedicated to them, once a month as a part of my normal “routine” if you will.

It might be other things like listening before we speak. Taking a moment to reflect on what the person is saying, rather than just speaking to get your point across. It could be being more understanding of somebody. Likewise, if it is the opposite, and you want to have your voice “heard”. You may want to be less judgemental or less quick to throw your two cents in. Whichever you decide with, lead with an open heart and the intent to build on your relationships.

Purpose

Last one is purpose. This one could be quite a large one or a narrow and focused one. This is where you want to move yourself forward in life. It could be with family, it could be with a career, it could be with changing and heading down a path where you contribute and volunteer more. It is all up to what you are looking for.

Start by thinking if you use your time well and is it spent moving the needle. Is it moving you steps closer to feeling like you are living somewhere that holds you in a place of happiness and joy? In other words, is it fulfilling more of your purpose to what you wish to do? If you are not, maybe look to put in some time for self-reflection. Self-reflection can be a very good way work out where you want to go with your purpose and what you want to do with your life.

These are three of life’s staples that may or may not work for you. Your life’s staples may look a little different but have a think about your “normal” and what you want your new normal to be.
