Over the years we have had so many wonderful people who have trained with us at the park. We asked some of them some questions reflecting on what they remember from their time.

1, How long have trained down at Ashfield Reserve?

I can’t actually remember. Tess started in 2012 and used to come home and bang on about her fitness instructor and all the great work he was doing. I was doing my own thing at the time riding to work 2-3 days a week. One day I decided to go to a session with Daniel, it was a fitness evaluation. Cool, let me run 4km as fast as I can and show you how fit I am. Well I went out and did a smashing pace, got back to Daniel underneath the Ashfield road-railway walkbridge and went well there you go mate. We then went back into park where I was informed we were to do as many sprints as you can in a few minutes. Needless to say I don’t think my stomach survived the sprints, followed up by push ups, sit ups, shoulder presses, squats and the first time I ever did a plank. I never looked back.

2, Favourite memory from you time in the community?

Lot’s to choose from, the amazing trail runs across some beautiful landscapes across greater Perth are a highlight, but one moment in Tough Mudder I recall a challenge which involved carrying wooden poles around a short course. It was the only event I’ve ever done where I outperformed Daniel, but that’s because I’ve carried hundreds of these poles whilst fencing our property (little did I know was training!). I’m happy for Daniel to outperform me with the other 99.99% activities we do! More recently celebrating my wedding anniversary through facebook. I do believe 2 out of 3 photo’s of my wife and I  involved all the fitness activities we have done with Daniel! I’ve seen members do their first 10km run, ½ marathon and full marathons which are all attributed to Daniel’s dedication to his members.

3, Program you have loved most (i.e. boxing, cardio, toning, stretch & flex etc)

I like the toning class, as I only ever did weights once for about 6 months when I was 18. I love running and cycling, but toning really helped my endurance in these activities, that I couldn’t get from doing them in isolation.
